Dylan Hartley, the hooker for the Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club the Northampton Saints plans to get a win under his belt as he puts his wits to test against Tom Youngs and his Leicester Tigers team in the final of the Aviva Premiership play-offs.
The Jimmies skipper Hartley has revealed that he sees the huge Midlands derby between The Saints and The Tigers not only as a title clash between two of the biggest domestic rivals, but also an opportunity to get one over his direct rival in the race for the #2 shirt of the British and Irish Lions. Youngs and Hartley will go head to head against each other at Twickenham Stoop and will reprise their battle that has been on throughout the season with the younger Leicester Tigers man edging out his more experienced opposition during the side’s Six Nations campaign just a few months back.
Both the players will join up with the British and Irish Lions squad a day after the final at Twickenham Stoop as they depart for their tour of Hong Kong and Australia. And speaking of the final, the Northampton Saints man stated that he sees this as an opportunity to push his name into the reckoning, fully aware that Welsh international Richard Hibbard is also a name that should be considered for the role as well.
Hartley stated that many people have been considering him as a cover for the third hooker but mentioned that every player has his time under the sun and he hopes his time will be now. But he is also not letting his personal rivalry with Youngs get to his head and is hopeful he will be able to help the Northampton Saints lift the Grand Slam trophy and then go on for the Lions’ tour.
